Houston signs Namibia back row Adriaan Booysen

The Houston SaberCats have added quality to their loose forward stocks with the signing of Namibia international Adriaan Booysen. He arrives having represented his country at the Rugby World Cup in Japan where he appeared in two of their three matches.

Booysen, 23, can play across the back row but prefers the No8 position. He enjoyed a try-scoring test debut against Senegal in 2017. For the past three seasons he has been a regular starter for the Welwitschias in South Africa’s SuperSport Rugby Challenge, and played six first division games in the 2017 Currie Cup. Following the World Cup Booysen played in the Rugby Africa Olympic sevens qualifiers.

It’s a timely arrival with the SaberCats short on numbers in the back row. The team used all available forwards in the match against Tasman this past weekend and will need greater depth to manage a 16-game regular season with only one rest week.
