England ready for Women’s Super Series

England coach Simon Middleton has named his strongest available squad for the fast-approaching Women’s Rugby Super Series in San Diego. The return of international round-robin competition provides another opportunity for his charges to gain experience at the highest level as they build towards the 2021 World Cup in New Zealand.

Test centurion Sarah Hunter continues as captain after leading the side to the Grand Slam in the Six Nations Championship and the World Cup Final in 2017. There are 14 players in all who competed in the flagship tournament two years ago included, with the likes of international stars Marlie Packer and Lydia Thompson among them.

Another three World Cup attendees – Vicky Fleetwood, Rachael Burford, and Katy Daley-Mclean – are ruled out through injury along with Amy Cokayne unavailable. Experienced lock Rowena Burnfield is also on the disabled list that includes Shaunagh Brown, Bryony Cleall, and flying winger Jess Breach.

First up for England will be a match against the USA on Friday, June 28, followed by Canada, France, and finally a rematch of the 2017 World Cup Final against New Zealand. All matches will be broadcast on FloRugby. Tickets are available now on the USA Rugby site.
