Sánchez Shines As Stade Français Paint La Défense Arena Pink

Nicolás Sánchez was on top of his game today in Paris. The Argentine fly half was excepcional for Stade Français who pained La Defense Arena Pink as they won the Parisian derby, downing Racing 92 27-23.

The win maintains Stade Français’ play-off’s ambitions. With two rounds remaining Stade Français sit on 60 competition points in 8th spot overall. The top six qualify for the play-off’s and Stade Français’ win today happened to be over the 6th placed Racing 94 who have 64 points.

In the match Sánchez landed one penalty and converted two tries for a personal haul of seven points. Yet it was his general play which stood out. The opening try was scored by Gaël Fickou who would finish off an effort made possible by a long, and accurate pass from Sánchez.

Capped 74 times by Argentina, Sánchez is the incumbent Argentine test fly half. His departure from Los Jaguares to France late last year saw questions asked over his status for RWC 2019 and the overall selection policy.

Head Coach Mario Ledesma has made it clear that players based in Europe will be in Los Pumas when they are clearly better than those at Los Jaguares. Both Sánchez, and Benjamín Urdapilleta (Castres) are on course for international duty this year. From Argentina the leading name is Super Rugby rookie Domingo Miotti.
