Taylor Paris scores first Top 14 try for Castres

Taylor Paris crossed for an early try in Castres’ away victory over Lyon on Saturday. The Canadian winger did so by running from inside his own half to score from a Lyon clearance kick. Notably it was his first ever try in the Top 14, after missing the entirety of the 2015-16 season with Agen and much of last year’s campaign due to injury.

Paris showed both intelligence and speed to score the try. Having not been held on the ground during a tackle, he was able to break clear and punish Lyon. Canada will be looking for much the same for him later this year at the World Cup in Japan.

The try was scored in just the second minute and opened the scoring. Former French test scrumhalf Rory Kockott would land the conversion to set about Castres’ important win on the road.

With the victory Castres rise to 5th place in the standings to be three points below Lyon who are third. The Tarn club are replicating their season from last year in which they recovered from a slow start to ultimately work their way into the play-off’s and claim the Top 14 title.
