The Americas Rankings have been updated following the completion of international competition this weekend. The March 03 2019 rankings take into account the results from the latest round of the Americas Rugby Championship (ARC).
In the first fixture of the round Canada fell to a 39-23 home defeat against theArgentina XV. The result saw the Argentina XV sealing the 2019 ARC title but it did not have any impact on the rankings. With the team being the national ‘next of XV’ no matches involving the Argentina XV involve rankings.
In South America Brazil were unable to score a try but were 15-10 winners over Chile. The updated Americas Rankings see Brazil gaining 0.32 rankings points to rise to 58.43 points. This represents a rise in the World Rankings above RWC repechage participants Hong Kong.
For Chile the defeat brings with it a loss of 0.32 points. Like Brazil this carries no change in the Americas Rankings and in the World Rankings Chile sit in 29th, compared to Brazil in 25th.
Saturday’s historic 32-25 upset win from Uruguay over the USA sees Los Teros gaining 1.93 points at the expense of the Eagles. This converts into a new ranking of 71.71 for the USA and Uruguay 69.08 for Uruguay. It means the USA fall below Tonga and Italy in the World Rankings to now be 15th. Uruguay overtake Samoa to be ranked 16th in the world.
The ARC will conclude next weekend. The final round will see Chile at home to the Argentina XV, Uruguay hosting Brazil and the USA at home against Canada.
