Māori All Blacks flatten Chile in Santiago

The Māori All Blacks flattened Chile in Santiago, winning a shut-out 73-0. The match concluded the New Zealand team’s historic tour of the Americas by winning 3-0 at the sold out Estadio San Carlos de Apoquindo.

A hat-trick from Mitch Karpik and doubles from both Bryn Hall and Sam Nock saw the visitors playing champagne rugby while giving Chile an illustration of the progress required to step up towards Tier 2 level.

Hall scored the game’s opening try. The 4th minute try was converted by Otere Black who would land 7 conversions in the match. His second conversion came just one minute following his first. This time it was converting a score from flanker Reed Prinsep which came from a maul.

After 17 minutes of holding off the Māori All Blacks the Chilean defense gave way. Scoring was Mitch Harpik with Black again successful in finding the target.

21-0 became 28-0 after 32 minutes. Hall’s second score silenced the home support who turned out in red to cheer-on Los Cóndores.

Black would convert once more before half-time, taking the score out to 35-0. This time the try scorer was fullback Josh Ioane.

Seven minutes into the second half saw the New Zealanders scoring again. Inside center Rob Thompson went over before a period of twenty scoreless minutes. Sam Nock provided an injection from the bench to score 66th and 74th minute tries.

A tired Chile would then let in three further tries with the visitors showing no quarter. Scoring two was Karpik with Jackson Hemopo scoring the other.
