Chile Beaten by Sudamérica XV

Chile were beaten by the Sudamérica XV 38-21 today at home in Santiago. In a match in which Chile had an opportunity to win Los Cóndores had a great way of preparing for next weekend’s home international.

An early double from winger Tomás Mac Gaw gave the Sudamérica XV a 10-0 lead. Both scores were unconverted which enabled Chile to cut the margin to three points when Pedro Verschae charged over for the first of his two tries for the afternoon.

Sudamérica XV captain and hooker Diego Fortuny cancelled out the try who restoring a 10 point lead. His score would be converted by Domingo Miotti and bring the scores to 17-7, the same scoreline at half time.

The first half scoring had Argentine players scoring all of the Sudamérica XV’s points. In the second half this would change with Uruguayans getting points on the board.

Before this eventuated, however, Chile would open the second half scoring. Chile’s early second half try was scored by hooker Tomás Dussaillant. The replacement cut the deficit to three points.

Now within one score of the Sudamérica XV Los Cóndores pounced again, this time through the backs. A second score from Verschae put Chile ahead 21-17. It would be the final score from the home side.

The Sudamérica XV responded with three tries, all of which were scored by Uruguayans. Diego Ayala, Andrés de León and Juan Manuel Rodríguez each scored once to give the Sudamérica XV a 17-point victory.

Chile play again next Saturday, also in Santiago. Los Cóndores are to receive the Maori All Blacks in a first-ever meeting between the sides. The Sudamérica XV will also play again, this time facing Paraguay in Asunción. A changed side is to be announced for the match.
