Caneda Scores as Charente Down Pro D2 Leaders

Lucas Caneda scored a second half try for Charente who downed Pro D2 leaders Mont de Marsan this weekend. Played on Friday in Angoulême, the Argentine wingers club came from behind to win a thriller 20-16.

Caneda was one of two uncapped Argentine players involved. Both he and Joel Scavali started the match, Scavali doing so at Tight Head. Additional flavor from South America saw Chilean Pablo Huete entered the match in the 57th minute for Charente while Mont de Marsan were captained by Uruguayan Agustín Ormaechea and Argentine-Italian Leandro Cedaro played no 8.

For Mont de Marsan the result marked the club’s first loss of the Pro D2 season. The club continues to sit in top spot of the standings with 21 competition points. All three of Brive, Nevers and Carcassonne are next best with 19. Charente have 18 points.

The Pro D2 continues next weekend with week 7 of the season. Charente will face Brive on Sunday while Mont de Marsan will have home advantage against Biarritz on Friday.
