Sudamérica Rugby Sevens Circuit Confirmed for January 2019

The next edition of the Sudamérica Rugby Sevens Circuit has been confirmed by the regional governing body. This year’s edition will again be played in January. The executive committee of Sudamérica Rugby have again allocated hosting rights to the two legs to Uruguay and Chile.

The tournaments are to be the third season of the regional circuit and are to return to Punta del Este and Viña del Mar. The Uruguayan resort town will host the first leg on January 6-7 while the Chilean city will do so on January 12-13.

Both legs of the 2019 Sudamérica Rugby Sevens will have twelve competing teams. The same was true in this year’s edition with South Africa winning in both Punta del Este and Viña del Mar while Fiji won in 2017.

Joining South Africa in this year’s event were Argentina, Canada, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, France, Germany, Ireland, Paraguay, Uruguay, and the USA.

For the 2019 competition the top two placed South American teams will qualify for the 2019 Hong Kong 7’s. The winner will also qualify for the 2019 Las Vegas 7’s. Not included in this is Argentina, a core team on the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series.
