Rugby 7’s To Feature In Week 1 of 2020 Tokyo Olympics

Rugby 7’s is to feature in week 1 of 2020 Tokyo Olympics, the IOC has confirmed. It is to be a repeat from the 2016 Olympic Games.

For Tokyo 2020 the rugby 7’s matches are to be played across six different days. They are to be organized into two daily sessions and will be played from July 27 to August 01 2020.

At the 2016 Olympic Games the Americas was heavily represented. Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, and the USA all had teams competing.

Fiji won the Men’s Gold Medals at the 2016 Olympic Games. The Rio de Janeiro Olympics marked the first time since Paris 1924 that rugby has featured as an Olympics sport. Fiji deservedly won Gold and, in doing so, secured their first ever medals in Olympics history.

The Gold Medalists at the Paris 1924 Olympics were the USA. They were back in Rio 2016 in both the Men’s and Women’s competitions. Unlike the Paris games Rio 2016 featured Women’s rugby and it was in the form of Rugby 7’s rather than Senior XV’s.

In the Women’s competition in Rio de Janeiro Australia claimed Gold. They did so by upsetting New Zealand in the Final. Canada claimed Bronze, and were the only team from the Americas among the Rio 2016 rugby medal winners.
