Snyman, Borlase join PRO Rugby ranks

Andre Snyman and Peter Borlase are the latest names to find a role within PRO Rugby. Both based in Denver, Snyman joins the league as a part-time Technical Adviser while Borlase will take up an Assistant Coach position beside Sean O’Leary, named Head Coach of the Denver franchise 10 days ago.

A winner of 38 caps for South Africa over the span of a decade beginning in 1996, Snyman has transformed from a top class midfielder to a highly rated coach since joining the Glendale Raptors in 2011, taking over the reigns as Head Coach in 2012. The 42-year-old had been speculated to be heading up the Denver franchise, but will instead continue his role with the Raptors and act as a consultant on technical matters for the league itself.

New Zealand-born Borlase, 30, joined the Denver Barbarians as Head Coach in 2014 after one season in the same role with Gernika in Spain. As a player the specialist tighthead prop, unusually tall for the position at 6’4″, played professionally with Canterbury, Munster, Connacht, Hawke’s Bay, and briefly with Super Rugby franchise Crusaders. He has most recently been involved as scrum coach with the Junior All-American side that defeated Canada in Texas to qualify for the World Rugby Junior Trophy competition.

PRO Rugby has announced that their first official day of training will be March 14, with complete fixtures and rosters set to be released over the course of this week. The new American professional rugby competition is set to kick off on April 17.
