Pumas to host South Africa in Salta in 2016

Argentina will return to the northern city of Salta to play host to South Africa in the 2016 Rugby Championship. Set to take place on August 27 2016 the fixture is to be a second round match with South Africa hosting the reverse fixture seven days earlier in Nelspruit.

Confirmation that Los Pumas will indeed be facing the Springboks in Salta was made by UAR President Carlos Araujo in an interview with Alentandooo. For Salta it is to be the second opportunity to host a Rugby Championship match with the prior test having also been against South Africa in 2014.

No confirmation was made in regards to the host cities for the home matches against Australia and New Zealand but it is highly unlikely either will play in Salta. The three New Zealand tests have been in La Plata while Australia’s four Rugby Championship matches have been split betwen Rosario and Mendoza.

Prior to the Rugby Championship France and Italy are to tour in June 2016 with France playing two tests and Italy one. The Italians are to also play in North America to complete a three-test tour. The venue for one of these matches is to be Tucumán with Araujo having admitted the rugby strong-hold will host a June fixture.

A fourth home test match in June may also come into being for Argentina with Romania reported to have been in negotiations with the UAR over the possibility.
