Argentines impress in European Challenge Cup

Argentine players impressed this weekend in the European Challenge Cup Round of 16. There were both Argentine try scorers and strong Argentine performances in general.

Agustín Creevy played a key role for London Irish in their 41-35 come-from-behind victory over Cardiff Blues. The club had a one man disadvantage following a red card early in the second half. Facundo Gigena was a second half replacement for London Irish.

Italy-capped Argentine Juan Ignacio Brex scored this weekend. He did so for Benetton who were 29-16 winners over Agen. Brex was joined by fellow Argentine players Thomas Gallo and Tomás Baravalle in the Benetton starting lineup. Ivan Nemer received game time as a replacement.

Matías Orlando started at outside center for the Newcastle Falcons. The northern English side were 28-24 winners. Their victory was a comeback win over the Ospreys in West Wales.

Gonzalo Bertranou played well for Dragons despite coming on the wrong side of a 39-43 defeat. The Welsh side had been well ahead but the Northampton Saints completed a stunning comeback.

Matías Moroni scored his first try for the Leicester Tigers. The English Premiership side were 48-32 winners over Connacht in Galway, Ireland. Moroni was joined in the starting line-up by Pumas teammate Tomás Lavanini.

The Round of 16 results mean that there will be a healthy contingent of Argentine players involved in the European Challenge Cup Quarter Finals.
