ATL signs South African hooker Marko Janse van Rensburg

Rugby ATL have signed South African hooker Marko Janse van Rensburg for the remainder of the 2021 Major League Rugby season. The 29-year-old follows co-captain Ryan Nell from the Pumas where he has most recently featured in the Super Rugby Unlocked campaign.

Janse van Rensburg is originally from Vanderbijlpark near Johannesburg but played Varsity Cup rugby for the University of Stellenbosch just outside of Cape Town. He made his senior provincial debut for Boland in 2013 and moved to the Pumas in 2016. In the years since he has amassed over 50 appearances across all competitions for the team from Mpumalanga.

It’s the second front row addition in as many weeks for ATL following Fijian tighthead prop Manasa Saulo. There are now four hookers in the squad including returnees Alex Maughan, Neethling Gericke, and Amro Gouda. USA international Maughan has worn the No3 shirt in ATL’s first two games of the season.
