Mike Petri to lead Rugby United New York Academy

Rugby United New York have announced the creation of a new Academy program to identify and develop local collegiate and club talent. Heading up the program is former captain and long-time US Eagles scrumhalf Mike Petri, who finds esteemed assistants in current New York and former All Blacks No9 Andy Ellis along with Yale Head Coach Craig Wilson.

Petri made a surprise return to the professional ranks with New York after winning the last of his 57 international caps at his third World Cup in 2015. He stepped away from the playing field this season having made 21 appearances in Major League Rugby including 15 as captain.

The new Academy is intended for players aged 18-23 and will begin training in May. A series of exhibition matches will be arranged with possible opponents including development sides from the New England Free Jacks, Old Glory DC, and the Northeast Academy.
