Los Teros named for Hong Kong

Uruguay have named their Teros 7s squad to travel to Hong Kong to take part in the core series qualifier bracket. Coached by World Cup winger Francisco Bulanti, the team has been boosted by a a number of players capped at senior XVs level including five members of 2017 Americas Rugby Championship squad.

With regular captain Gabriel Puig ruled out due to a serious knee injury sustained in Viña del Mar, leadership will come from experienced scrumhalf Guillermo Lijtenstein and the only member of the 2015 World Cup team included, Gastón Mieres. Creative outside back Federico Favaro is another key figure while tireless Santiago Hernández will replace Puig in the forwards fresh off a European tour with Los Teros in November.

Los Teros have been drawn in Pool G at Hong Kong, also designated Qualifier Group C. Papua New Guinea, Guyana, and Olympic participants Spain will await in the opening rounds. Only the winner of the tournament will qualify as a core member for the 2017-18 HSBC Sevens Series.
