Seawolves star Coetzer joins USA squad for Argentina XV match

Seattle Seawolves star Davy Coetzer has been included in a 31-man USA XV squad to prepare for the upcoming match against an Argentina XV. The group has congregated at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, ahead of the August 15 match to be played at Inter Miami FC Stadium in Fort Lauderdale.

Coetzer has been one of Major League Rugby’s top talents since arriving in Houston just ahead of the 2022 campaign. After four seasons with the SaberCats he joined the Seawolves in 2026. The 27-year-old flyhalf previously represented South Africa at the World Junior Championship but will have satisfied the five-year registration requirement to play for the Eagles in 2027.

With the match not considered to be binding for eligibility, Anthem hooker Campbell Robb is also included. The 23-year-old New Zealander will be fully US-qualified in September.

Earning a first-time call-up to a senior USA squad is Hartpury University scrumhalf Spencer Huntley. The San Diego Mustangs product toured with the USA u23s to South Africa in 2025. California Legion pair Ma’ake Muti and Cassh Maluia are other uncapped inclusions along with Old Glory winger John Rizzo. All three were part of the senior Eagles squad for last month’s test series.

Returning to the group after missing out in July are loosehead props Faka’osi Pifeleti and Payton Telea-Ilalio, second row Tevita Naqali, blindside flanker Marno Redelinghuys, flyhalf or inside center Tom Pittman, and wingers Joe Mano and Noah Brown. Mano was initially selected for the Nations Cup tests but missed out with injury.

Players currently on pro deals overseas were not available for selection. Hooker Shilo Klein’s contract with Zebre Parma concluded at the end of the URC season. Midfielder Dom Besag is set to join the Sharks in South Africa later this year. Huntley is the only other inclusion based outside of MLR.
