Guido Petti Reaches Milestone of 100 Test Caps for Argentina

Guido Petti will become a centurion for Argentina on Saturday. The 31-year-old reaches the milestone of 100 test caps in the Andean city of San Juan against Wales. Petti does so seven days after Matías Alemanno became the fifth Puma in history to earn 100 caps.

Alemanno earned his 100th cap at the age of 34. He did so alongside Petti in the second-row. Seven days later sees the pair starting again with Petti earning his 100th cap. Petti is three years younger than Alemanno. Both men played at Rugby World Cups 2015, 2019 and 2023 after debuting during the RWC 2011-2015 cycle.

Petti made his test debut for Los Pumas on November 14, 2014, in a 20–18 victory against Italy. He did so as a teenager. The following year he was starting for Argentina at the World Cup at London’s Wembley Stadium against New Zealand. Petti scored in the match but was forced off after a knee to the head from Dan Carter when Petti scored his try.

Argentina’s scrum was locked by Petti and Tomás Lavanini. This was the norm for almost a decade with Alemanno completing a trinity. Lavanini last played for Argentina in 2024 with Pedro Rubiolo becoming the first-choice tight-head second-rower under Felipe Contepomi. Petti and Franco Molina have been Contepomi’s go-to-men at loose head second-row.

Molina played Super Rugby Pacific in 2026 for the Western Force. Super Rugby Pacific is where was previously a hunting ground for the aforementioned trinity. They all played in the inaugural Super Rugby campaign for Los Jaguares. They moved to Europe to continue their careers at different times.

The pandemic saw Petti moving to France to join Bordeaux in the Top 14 in 2020. He played for the club until 2025 and was a European Champions Cup winner in his final season. He played at both flanker and second-row for the European Champions. Petti now plays his rugby in England. He joined the Harlequins in mid-2025.
