Mexico Overcome Trinidad & Tobago in Rugby Americas North Grand Final

Las Serpientes of Mexico are the 2025 Rugby Americas North (RAN) Champions. The Mexican National Men’s team overcame Trinidad & Tobago in the Grand Final on Saturday. Mexico were comprehensive winners in Mexico City by a scoreline of 45-14.

In his 10th cap for Las Serpientes, Sebastián Díaz captained his country to glory at the Estadio de Prácticas Roberto Tapatío Méndez. Center Connor Olvera made his test debut for Mexico while the most capped player, hooker Mizael Loredo, earned his 26th cap.

The teams had secured their places in the RAN Final in differing manners. Shakeel Dyte and the Calypso Warriors were 29-28 winners over Barbados while Las Serpientes were 37-22 winners over Jamaica.

The trophy does not bring with it a pathway to qualifying for Rugby World Cup 2027. World Rugby excluded the Caribbean region from Rugby World Cup 2027 Qualifiers. North American participation is limited to Canada and the USA. This differs to South America. The South American regional qualifiers include Costa Rica. The Central Americans joined Colombia, Peru and Venezuela in round 1.
