Selknam Prove Miracles Happen as they Overcome Dogos to Secure Semi Final

Selknam pulled-off a stunning late season string of wins to secure a place in the Semi Finals. The Chileans needed to win their final three matches and they successfully did so. It involved beating Los Pampas in Buenos Aires, Yacare in Santiago and Los Dogos in Córdoba. The win over Los Dogos on Friday came with a last-gasp try.

MATCH NOTES
  • Los Dogos appeared home at half-time. They led 23-12 and Selknam lost Matías Garafulic to a red card.
  • Selknam’s come-from-behind win saw them winning the second half and claiming the win on full-time.
  • Clemente Saavedra opened the scoring with a try for Selknam.
  • Los Dogos responded through two penalties to Juan Bautista Baronio.
  • Salvador Lues and Juan Lovell then traded tries before Selknam lost Matías Garafulic for foul play.
  • Baronio landed a penalty and converted a try scored by prop Boris Wenger.
  • The second half scoring started with a Baronio penalty.
  • Selknam were then back to 15 players and Iñaki Gurruchaga scored near the posts.
  • The final quarter started with Tomas Slas landing a sensational conversion from the left corner. Cristobal Game had scored just inside the corner flag.
  • Lautaro Cipriani scored to give Los Dogos a 31-26 lead.
  • After several minutes of pick-and-goes on the Dogos try line, replacement Emilio Shea scored in the final minute for Selknam. Tomás Salas converted for the victory.
