Crushing win over Cobras Returns Pampas to Top Spot

A crushing 78-18 away win by Los Pampas sees the Buenos Aires side returning to top spot in Super Rugby Americas 2025. Los Pampas made light work of Os Cobras in São Paulo on Saturday afternoon. The Argentines had a superior skill-set and execution while Os Cobras again made the challenge even harder for themselves with a yellow card and a red card in the second-half.

MATCH NOTES
  • Os Cobras had a glimmer of hope after an excellent start had them leading 10-0. Os Cobras rookie scrum-half Gustavo Gobeti scored the opening try.
  • Center Francisco Quinn responded to put Los Pampas on the board.
  • Los Pampas’ second try, scored by prop Bautista Bosch, gave them the lead on the 20 minute mark.
  • Lucas Tranquez restored Os Cobras’ lead with a 26th minute penalty. They would quickly be caught and then receive rapid-fire tries.
  • Juan Penoucos and Juan Pablo Castro scored late in the first-half to secure their team the bonus point.
  • Castro scored again early in the second-half as did flanker and captain Nicolás D’Amorim and fullback Jerónimo Solveyra. D’Amorim’s try saw the flanker out sprinting the Brazilian fullback.
  • Manuel Todaro scored for Os Cobras only to be yellow carded two minutes later.
  • It got worse as Henrique Ferreira became the first player to be red carded twice this season.
  • Replacement Pampas hooker Francisco Lusarreta and fly half Estanislao Renthel both scored twice.
  • Los Pampas now have 34 competition points. They are followed by Los Dogos on 30 points, Peñarol on 29 points and Selknam round out the Top 4 on 24 points.
  • Os Cobras are winless this season. The team has 4 points. One spot higher are Los Tarucas on 18 points.
