USA Fall to Ireland at Junior World Championship

Ireland out on an outstanding performance against the USA at the Junior World Championship in Georgia on Tuesday. The men in green were 73-22 winners in the final pool fixture for both teams. The USA ran in three tries with Finnian Love, Joseph Sarkees, and Leo Keesler-Venables claiming one each.

The big Irish win went some way to make-up for the two earlier results in the pool. Ireland were beaten by England and Argentina in their prior matches. The USA also fell to the same two teams. This set-up a battle to finish third in the group.

Ireland’s win over the USA came with Christopher Barrett and Charlie O’Shea running play well. Both players crossed for early tries which helped build a large leading margin that was 45-3 at the close of the first-half.

On the plus side for the winning team there were a total of eleven tries scored by the Irish. Not all was well tough as Ireland finished a player down after Charlie Molony was red carded by virtue or picking-up a second yellow card in the match.

The outcome of the match means Ireland will be competing for a 9th Place Finish while the USA be in in a four-way-battle to finish 13th and avoid bottom spot of 16th.
