Game two of the penultimate round of Super Rugby Americas (SRA) 2026 saw Los Pampas and Selknam going down to the wire in a contest that involved a bizarre finish. Whether or not the outcome will turn out to punish Selknam will depend on Los Tarucas’ final two performances.
The match ended 30-28 in favor of the home side. However, Selknam had been leading 28-27 in the 79th minute only to concede a penalty when deep in opposition. Selknam then stole the lineout and went about seeing out the victory only for hooker, Augusto Böhme to throw a punch. From there, Los Pampas managed to recover and kick the winning points.

The incident saw Augusto Böhme red carded. The bizarre finish also came after Selknam had taken control of the contest. Los Pampas were 17-7 leaders at half-time only for the Chilean side to strike back with three consecutive tries during a period in which Los Pampas only managed one penalty.
Estanislao Renthel came away as the hero with the final penalty. He was also the first player to score. His early try was converted by Bautista Farisé, a player who has successfully made the transition this season from Peñarol to Los Pampas.
The strong opening show from Los Pampas continued. The Buenos Aires side was rewarded with a second try with winger Alfonso Latorre scoring in the try zone. Farisé added the conversion.
Selknam’s response came on 27 minutes. Augusto Böhme scored his first of two tries for the night. Matías Garafulic landed the conversion in the final score of the opening half. It mean Los Pampas were ten points up at the midway point in the contest.
Selknam’s forwards got the upper hand in the second-half. It only took them five minutes to score again with Böhme adding his second try. Garafulic converted to make it a 17-14 scoreline after 46 minutes.
Selknam took the lead on 54 minutes. 21-year-old Nicolás Saab scored for the Chileans and the under pressure Pampas lost Lucas Morseco for ten minutes to a yellow card. Further pressure saw Tobías Wade yellow carded two, thus reducing Los Pampas to thirteen players.
The situation advantaged Selknam and the team scored again with replacement front-rower, Salvador Lues scoring the bone point try. Rather than seeing out victory, Selknam paid the ultimate price with Ignacio Díaz scoring a late try before the self-destruction from Augusto Böhme. His sending-off resulted in Estanislao Renthel snatching victory from defeat for Los Pampas.
The result means Selknam move up to 36 competition points. Los Tarucas are on 34 ahead of their round thirteen clash against Os Cobras in São Paulo. Peñarol sits below on 29 and can, mathematically, also secure the final remaining spot in the SRA play-offs. Saturday’s matches will be critical for both Peñarol and Los Tarucas in addition to the hurting Selknam.
