Super Rugby Americas 2026 – Week Two – ARN Guide

Week one of Super Rugby Americas (SRA) is in the history books. It saw a perfect four wins from Argentine teams. Os Cobras was the only non-Argentine competitor to come away with a bonus point in defeat. Will Argentine also dominate in week two?

Week two SRA action starts on Friday with Peñarol playing host to Los Tarucas in Montevideo, Uruguay. It is the reigning champions looking to rebound from a very underwhelming debut against debutants, Los Capibaras. Meanwhile, Los Tarucas are looking for more of the same after they started their SRA season very strongly against Selknam.

Selknam have home advantage in the first of three Saturday fixtures. The Chileans take-on Yacare in Santiago. Saturday action also sees Los Capibaras at home against Os Cobras and a derby in Buenos Aires between Los Pampas and Los Dogos.

  • Los Tarucas have made two changes: Tomás Dante starts at flanker and Estanlislao Presto starts at scrum-half. They replace Facundo Cardozo and Matías Sauze respectively.
  • Peñarol’s scrum and lineout were notable failures in week one. Ivo Dugonjic notes that addressing them were key focus areas this week.

  • Clemente Armstrong starts out of position at flanker. He has played wing and center previously for Selknam.
  • Marcelo Torrealba is back for the first time since a serious injury in SRA 2025. He starts in the halves inside Rodrigo Fernández who is back in Chile after having played Serie A rugby in Italy.
  • Backs have also moves positions, notably with Matías Garafulic playing inside center rather than fullback. This sees Nicolás Saab moving to the wing and a first start for Marco Alvano at fullback.
  • Matías Muniagurria earns his first start for Yacare at N8.
  • Ramiro Amarilla continues as captain from outside center. He will play again for Paraguay once he has completed 5 years residency. Other Yacare Argentines may too such as halves Juan Cruz Strada, and Joaquín Lamas who are now veterans in the Paraguayan team.
  • Despite performing above expectations against Los Dogos, Os Cobras have a rotated line-up against Los Capibaras. For instance, João do Amaral arguably had his best match ever yet moves from fly half to fullback.
  • Los Capibaras have made five changes. Ignacio Dogliani is rewarded for his performance in week one by replacing Juan Bautista Baronio at fly half. Baronio was somewhat erratic against Peñarol.
  • Los Capibaras are 100% Argentine. Os Cobras have Santiago Bonavento, Facundo Moreno, Julián Leszczynski, and Lautaro Facundo from Argentina in their 23. They also have South Africans Zinedine Booysen, Ashwin Cox, Mogomotsi Mokunyane and Rosko Specman.
