Juan Ignacio Brex Celebrates 50th Cap with win vs Scotland

Juan Ignacio Brex celebrated his 50th cap for Italy with a win over Scotland on Saturday. The center from Buenos Aires, Argentina was one of three Italian players reaching the milestone of 50 caps in the match. He joined captain Michele Lamaro and fly half Paolo Garbisi.

Brex has been playing for Italy since 2021. He completed the eligibility transfer from Argentina to Italy via the Rugby 7’s Olympic loophole. Brex was born and raised in Argentina and learned his rugby in Argentina. He went through the domestic High Performance program but was unable to secure an opportunity with Los Pumas.

He moved to Italy in 2016 after having represented the Argentina XV one year earlier. Having played for Argentina at u20 level, Brex is also a former Pumita. He is a product of Club San Cirano in Buenos Aires.

Brex qualifies for Italy due to the aforementioned Olympic loophole and has Italian family ancestry via a grandparent.He made his debut for Italy in the 2021 Six Nations against France.

Victory over Scotland in Rome on sees Italy starting the 2026 Six Nations well. The Gonzalo Quesada coached Italians were 18-15 winners. Brex had a try assist in the first-half.
