Tomás Rapetti is the latest Argentine player continuing his career in France. The uncapped tight head prop confirmed that he is joining giants Toulouse. The signing sees the current Argentine u20’s players making the move from Super Rugby Americas to the Top 14.
| CAREER – TOMÁS RAPETTI |
The 20-year-old Tomás Rapetti comes from General Rodríguez in the urban conglomeration of Greater Buenos Aires. His father, Juan José Rapetti played for Mariano Moreno, Banco Nacional and Alumni clubs in Buenos Aires as well as spending six years in Europe where he played Pro D2 for Béziers and in Italy for L’Aquila. He was a Pumita alongside Agustín Pichot and Ignacio Fernández Lobbe.
Tomás Rapetti went through the Argentine High Performance system. He joined Los Pampas in Super Rugby Americas as a teenager. He played in the 2024 and 2025 campaigns; the recently completed latter featured him anchoring the scrum while being eliminated at the Semi Final stage.
His pathway to Los Pampas came from the Alumni club. The same club produced Rugby World Cup 1995 captain Sebastian Salvat, winger Gonzalo Camardón and current flanker Pablo Matera.
Rapetti was drafted into Los Pampas while also playing for Argentina in junior age groups. He is a rare example of a tight head prop with three years of experience playing in the World Rugby u20 Championship. He made his u20 World Championship debut in the 43-15 win over Italy in 2023.
In his second season playing for Los Pumitas, Rapetti was established as the starting tight-head prop. He impressed in the wet conditions against Australia in the opening match of the u20 Rugby Championship. Rapetti was a try scorer in the 25-6 away victory.
| STADE TOULOUSAIN PUMAS |
Rapetti will join Toulouse after the upcoming 2025 World Rugby u20 Championship in Italy. Rapetti will reunite with his 2024 Pumitas captain, Efraín Elías. The second-rower joined Toulouse after the World Rugby u20 Championship. He went on to debut for Argentina in the win over Wellington, New Zealand.
Toulouse is presently home to three Pumas: Efraín Elías, Santiago Chocobares and Juan Cruz Mallía. Chocobares joined Toulouse in 2021 and Mallía did so in 2020. Both were Super Rugby players before moving to France. Rapetti and Elías are examples of the new pathway to the elite level; Super Rugby Americas has become the new bridge linking Argentines to professional contracts abroad.
