Pablo Casas now playing for Steaua Bucureşti in Romania

Pablo Casas’ name was missing from the Selknam roster for Super Rugby Americas 2024. The reason for this is that Casas is now playing his rugby in Europe. The 16 time capped Cóndor is now playing for Steaua Bucureşti in Romania.

Casas is the last Chilean player to be confirmed as playing abroad. He follows a fellow center Domingo Saavedra who is awaiting his visa clearance to join NOLA Gold in Major League Rugby (MLR). Saavedra will play alongside Chilean hooker Augusto Bohme at the club.

Chilean captain Martín Sigren is also now a MLR player. Sigren joined the New England Freejacks for MLR 2024 from the Doncaster Knights in England. Fly half / fullback Santiago Videla is now at the Miami Sharks. In short, Chileans have plenty of reason to pay close attention to the upcoming MLR season.

Casas is not alone in playing his rugby in Europe. Iñaki Ayarza plays for Charente in France’s Pro D2 while fellow World Cup player, Matías Dittus plays for Périgueux. Vittorio Lastra is playing for Rovigo while fly half Rodrigo Fernández plays for Petrarca.

Romania will not be Casas’ first experience in Europe. He has previously played in Portugal. Meanwhile, Chilean scrum-half Nicolás Herreros is now playing his rugby in Portugal for Agronomía.
