Impressive Argentina Lift South American u19 Trophy

Argentina’s position as the giants of the Americas shows signs of continuing. The South American Tri Nations saw Argentina backing-up their mid-week 68-0 win over Chile by similarly easily defeating Uruguay to secure the South American u19 Trophy for another year. Los Pumitas converted a 40-3 half-time lead into a 59-8 victory over Los Teritos in Santa Fé on Saturday.

Los Teritos opened the scoring in Santa Fé. The Uruguayans were 3-0 up thanks to an 11th minute penalty to Ícaro Amarillo. From there Los Pumitas dominated. The remainder of the octets saw the Argentines scoring nine tries and the Uruguayans one.

Six of the Argentine tries came in the opening half. In short, a dominant period from the 12th to the 40th minute mark saw Argentina running in 40 unanswered points. Juan Manuel Vivas, Mateo Fauda, Faustino Sánchez Valarolo, Gael Galván, Tomás Bocco, and Diego Correa all scored in the try zone.

The second-half saw Los Teritos starting well. Flanker Juan Manuel Dotta crossed for Uruguay’s try. Captain against Chile, Benjamín Elizalde responded with a double for Los Pumitas while fly half Santino Di Lucca scored a late try to end the scoring.
