Rugby Canada hires Aboud as new High Performance Director

Rugby Canada has a new High Performance Director. Stephen Aboud will oversee all national team programs, with a focus on developing the elite player pathway in Canada from age-grade to senior level. He will officially take up the position next month.

Aboud comes highly rated after working in similar roles for both Ireland and Italy. He spent over 25 years with Irish Rugby, initially working on their amateur pathway and the professional academy system. In Italy he is widely credited with turning their academy and international age-grade programs around which has seen a significant increase in production of home-grown talent at the senior level.

Scott Johnson was brought in as a high performance consultant earlier this year but it appears the former Wales, USA, and Scotland coach has not been retained in a permanent capacity. The full-time position at Rugby Canada has not been filled since Steve Lancaster’s departure in early 2015.
