Cobras Fly High Against USA Hawks in Charlotte

Os Cobras completed a 43-14 win over the USA Hawks on Thursday. Played at Memorial Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina, the Brazilian team made it two-from-two in North America.

Os Cobras backed-up their victory over the American Raptors with a second strong performance in the USA. Unlike the former match, the second was not a part of Super Rugby Americas. The USA Hawks are a development team.

The match started well for Os Cobras. The Brazilian side held a 12-7 lead at the end of the opening quarter. It came in the form of an Argentine-Irish connection; Bautista Vidal and Donnacha Byrne scored Os Cobras’ two early tries.

The Hawks were unable to keep up. With 23 minutes gone Sérgio Luna scored the third Cobras try. It was swiftly followed by the fourth with Colombian flier Alain Altahona scoring in the try zone. It put the South American team 26-7 up at half-time.

The Hawks began the second half strongly, hitting back with their second try of the contest. It would be their last as the remainder of the match went the way of Os Cobras. A double to Brazilian winger Adrio Rodrigues and a try to Colombian flanker Diver Ceballos saw Os Cobras finishing off an impressive 43-14 victory.

Os Cobras now fly home to prepare for the second half os Super Rugby Americas 2023. Next up is an away match against Os Dogos in Córdoba, Argentina. Los Dogos lead Super Rugby Americas 2023 at the half-way stage of the season. The USA Hawks face Paraguay’s Super Rugby Americas side, Yacare on April 29.
