Houston SaberCats sign Hanco Germishuys and Dom Akina

The Houston SaberCats have confirmed the signings of Hanco Germishuys and Dominic Akina for the 2023 Major League Rugby season. They were selected in the Dispersal Draft from the LA Giltinis and Austin Gilgronis respectively. Both are noted for their dynamic ball carrying ability.

Germishuys started for the Eagles in both of their World Cup Qualifiers against Chile in July, but was then left out of the squad for the Repechage. This will be the 5th MLR team for the 26-year-old back row. Prior to joining LA he played for Austin, Glendale, and New York.

Akina returned to the backline in 2022 after playing two seasons as a loose forward with the AG’s. He played nine games as a center, his college position, while starting once at flanker. The 28-year-old’s speed could see him utilised on the wing for the SaberCats, with incumbent midfield duo Louritz van der Schyff and Christian Dyer both returning.
