Seattle Seawolves acquire Conner Mooneyham from Rugby ATL

The Seattle Seawolves have acquired the rights to Conner Mooneyham from Rugby ATL. It’s the second organizational change in a matter of weeks for the former Austin winger, who was selected by the Ratlers in the first round of the recent Dispersal Draft. ATL receives a 3rd round pick in the 2023 Collegiate Draft and salary cap considerations in exchange.

Mooneyham owns a unique distinction of being the only player to have been drafted three times. Dallas selected him with the first overall pick in the inaugural Collegiate Draft class of 2020, and he was then snapped up by Austin in the Dispersal Draft just ahead of the 2021 season.

On the pitch, the 26-year-old has proven a top class performer on the right wing. In two seasons Mooneyham has played 23 games with 8 tries scored, and earned selection to the Eagles training squad last year though he was ultimately ruled out of test contention due to injury.

While the Seawolves are yet to confirm his signature, Mooneyham is set to join an outside backs group that includes current Eagles winger Martin Iosefo, star fullback Duncan Matthews, and local trio Lauina Futi, Cole Zarcone, and Jeremiah Sio. He would effectively take the roster spot of Ross Neal, who last month announced his retirement after suffering from concussion-related symptoms.

EDIT. NOTE: Seattle have now confirmed that Mooneyham has signed on for 2023.
