North American trio named in Women’s Dream Team

Three North Americans have been named in the official World Rugby Women’s Dream Team for 2022. Player of the Year nominee Sophie de Goede is joined by fellow Canadian Emily Tuttosi and USA standout Hope Rogers in the team selected by a panel of commentators and former internationals.

All three were rewarded for top form across the year. de Goede and Tuttosi were part of the Canadian side that finished second in the Pacific Four and fourth at the World Cup, along the way winning a national-record eight straight games. Rogers and the Eagles reached the Quarter Finals in New Zealand and also recorded a road win over Scotland.

World Cup finalists England lead the way with six selections. Tighthead prop Sarah Bern joins Rogers and Tuttosi in the front row, with Alex Matthews and Marlie Packer alongside de Goede in the back row. Abbie Ward is named at lock beside France’s Madoussou Fall.

Emily Scarratt and Abby Dow get the nod at center and fullback respectively, with French scrumhalf Laure Sansus recognized despite missing most of the World Cup with injury. The remainder of the backline are from defending world champions New Zealand – flyhalf and Player of the Year Ruahei Demant, center Theresa Fitzpatrick, and wingers Ruby Tui and Portia Woodman.
