Rugby New York returns for four, new prop revealed for 2023

Rugby New York have confirmed the return of four players from their title-winning campaign of 2022, and the addition of a new prop for 2023. Prop Chance Wenglewski, flankers Ben Bonasso and Brendon O’Connor, and winger Ed Fidow will stay on. Tevita Langi arrives from New Zealand.

Wenglewski rotated with Nic Mayhew at loosehead for New York this past season. He was a replacement for the USA against Hong Kong this past weekend. Bonasso is also currently in the Eagles squad but did not feature in the match against the Dragons. The Argentine-raised loose forward was vice-captain of the side this past year.

O’Connor was a fixture in the No7 shirt for New York and the New Zealander made a big impression, earning MLR Forward of the Year honors in his first season in the league. Fidow terrorised opposition defenses while scoring 12 tries in 15 starts on the left wing. He won his 15th cap for Samoa in July.

Langi joins Wenglewski as primarily loosehead options for 2023. The 22-year-old made 10 appearance for North Harbour, including 5 starts, during his first NPC campaign. At 126kg (275lbs) he is a formidable physical specimen who was previously invited to attend New Zealand u20 selection camps.
