San Diego extension for second row Ben Grant

Ben Grant has signed a one-year extension with the San Diego Legion. The 24-year-old lock enters his second Major League Rugby season after making the move from Australia.

Standing a lofty 6’9″ (2.05m), Grant was the tallest player in the league this past year. His physicality proved a big plus for the Legion both at the set piece and in ruck clearouts. Grant played 13 matches including a dozen starts, usually paired with Ben Mitchell or Jale Railala.

Mitchell has now moved to Seattle but the Legion have signed Isaac Ross from Austin. Railala returned to his native Fiji to play for Naitasiri after the season and has yet to be confirmed for the 2023 campaign. Another lock, Jonah Dietenberger, was sent to Utah as part of the trade to acquire Mikey Te’o.
