Three more sign Rugby ATL extensions

Rugby ATL have confirmed three more contract extensions. Scrumhalf Ryan Rees and loose forward Daemon Torres have signed on for the 2023 Major League Rugby season, while versatile halfback Duncan van Schalkwyk has extended his deal through the 2024 campaign.

Rees continued his rotation with Rowan Gouws in ATL’s No9 shirt this past season. The 25-year-old played 13 games including 7 starts. His strong form earned selection to the USA Falcons squad for their Toyota Challenge matches in Bloemfontein.

van Schalkwyk was also selected for the South African trip. After playing scrumhalf for the Ratlers during their inaugural 2020 season, the 26-year-old is now primarily considered a flyhalf. He split time at the playmaking position with Kurt Coleman this year, making 12 appearances with 7 starts.

Torres, 25, enjoyed a breakthrough season for ATL. His 14 games and 10 starts were both career highs, more than doubling his appearance total from the 2021 season. Typically a blindside flanker, the USA u20 international featured heavily at No8 this year in the injury-enforced absence of Jason Damm.
