Canada names rosters for Sevens World Cup

Rugby Canada have confirmed their traveling rosters for next weekend’s Rugby World Cup Sevens in Cape Town. The Men’s side will open the knock-out tournament in a qualifier match against Zimbabwe, while the Women begin in the Round of 16 against against China.

There is just one change to Jack Hanratty’s squad from the team that competed at the Commonwealth Games. Florence Symonds returns with Renee Gonzalez dropping out. Olivia De Couvreur will also accompany the team as a traveling reserve.

Four players return from the 2018 lineup that finished 7th. Co-captains Olivia Apps and Breanne Nicholas are joined by Pamphinette Buisa and Bianca Farella. The latter was also part of the 2013 team that were runners-up to New Zealand.

Only 12 players travel for the men’s side. Matthew Oworu returns to the squad after missing out on this past weekend’s trip to California. Cooper Coats is ruled out with injury, with Josh Thiel the odd man out having debuted in LA. It’s an entirely new squad, with none of the 2018 roster returning.
