Leading Argentina Prop Out of Rugby Championship

Argentina have suffered an injury blow. Francisco Gómez Kodela is out of rugby for two months. The tight head prop was injured playing this past weekend for Lyon. He had returned to the club following Argentina’s home series against Australia.

Gómez Kodela started for Argentina against the Wallabies and also against Scotland in July. His understudy was Joel Sclavi who made his test debut in July. Sclavi is now set to be the starting tight head against the All Blacks in New Zealand.

Argentina had made the decision to tour New Zealand without Gómez Kodela in addition to Agustín Creevy and Nahuel Tetaz Chaparro. The same players will return for future international duty this year. For Gómez Kodela the return date has now been delayed; he is officially out of the Rugby Championship matches against South Africa.

The next opportunity for the veteran to add to his 26 caps will be on Argentina’s end-of-year tour. Los Pumas will face England, Scotland and Wales in November. Between now and then Argentina will face New Zealand and South Africa twice each. Sclavi is joined by Eduardo Bello and Santiago Medrano on the roster for these matches.
