Canada and Jamaica qualify for Sevens World Cup

Canada emerged champions in both the Men’s and Women’s brackets at the Rugby Americas North Sevens in Nassau. As expected the two World Sevens Series core teams dominated the tournament to earn their place at this year’s Rugby World Cup Sevens. Jamaica will also travel to Cape Town as runners-up in the Men’s division.

The Canadian Men finished a perfect 5-0 with 177 points scored and 33 against. Their Women’s counterparts were even more impressive, notching up 259 points in their 5 wins without conceding a single point.

Jamaica’s Men were given a challenge by Cayman in the Quarter Finals but the only defeat for the Crocs would come in the Cup Final. In addition to their spot at the World Cup, they have also qualified for the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

Mexico were the 3rd placed finishers in the Men’s division after emerging unbeaten in the pool stage. Fourth place went to Bermuda, with Barbados defeating the Cayman Islands in the Plate Final. Rounding out the top eight were 7th-place Trinidad & Tobago and finally Curaçao.

Las Serpientes were finalists in the Women’s division while Jamaica tied with Trinidad & Tobago in the Bronze Final. Cayman lost all four of their games but scored one try each against both Mexico and Jamaica in the pool stage.
