MLR gets Argentina referee flavor

The 2022 Major League Rugby season will have Argentina flavor on the field. The majority of the MLR teams have Argentine players on their rosters. The new MLR season will also have Argentina flavor in terms of referees; Damian Schneider will officiate MLR matches in the 2022 season.

The 28-year-old from Rosario is one of three referees under a full-time contracts with Sudamérica Rugby in 2021. The three are Schneider (Argentina), Nehuén Jauri Rivero (Argentina) and Francisco González (Uruguay). They are all to be on the panel for the 2022 Super Liga Américana de Rugby (SLAR) season.

Schneider will feature in the opening five rounds of MLR 2022. The season opens on February 05. The Rosario referee will then travel to Europe to referee in the Six Nations u20 tournament. He has been appointed to England vs Ireland in London and Wales vs Italy in Colwyn Bay.

The SLAR season will begin in March. Schneider will return from the UK to prepare for the season. He will referee MLR and Six Nations in English and SLAR matches in Spanish. He has previously officiated matches in both languages and has used both when required in certain matches.

His prior officiating of test matches include Uruguay vs Romania in 2016, Brazil vs Portugal in 2017, Brazil vs Romania in 2019, Chile vs Portugal in 2019 and Uruguay vs USA in 2021. 5 He has a law degree from the Universidad Nacional de Rosario.
