Seawolves to play Canada West, Arrows book DC for preseason

The Seattle Seawolves will host a Rugby Canada West Selects side on January 28, with the Toronto Arrows booking a road game against Old Glory DC on January 21. Both sides have confirmed two preseason matches ahead of the 2022 Major League Rugby regular season.

A select side comprised of Canadian-eligible standouts from the new Coastal Cup will make up the Canada West offering, to be coached by former Seawolves player-coach Phil Mack. The Vancouver Wave were crowned inaugural champions by defeating the Pacific Pride last month. Other teams participating were Van East, the Crimson Tide, and university sides UBC, UVic, and Trinity Western.

Toronto are set to play against Old Glory at The St. James, their indoor training facility in Springfield, Virginia. The Arrows were unable to play any preseason games in 2021.

Providing opposition in the second match for both teams will be the UBC Old Boy Ravens, current holders of the BC Premier League’s Rounsefell Cup. The Ravens will visit Seattle on January 22, followed by an indoor match against the Arrows in Oakville on January 29. UBCOB notably upset the Houston SaberCats at Constellation Field in January of 2018.

The Seawolves open their regular season against the Arrows on February 6 in Tukwila.
