Mexico vs Cayman Islands Test Match set for December

The year may be coming to an end but there is still international rugby to look forward to. Mexico will play host to the Cayman Islands in a test match on Saturday, December 11. The match will take place in Mexico City. Kick-off is scheduled for 2pm local time.

The fixture has been a regular one though the last meeting was over two years ago. In the 2019 fixture, Mexico set a new record in hammering the Cayman Islands. Las Serpientes’ scored over 100 points for the first time in their history. The 105-17 victory surpassed Mexico’s prior record win of 96-0 against the Turks & Caicos Islands in 2014.

The 2019 result was remarkable. Not only did Mexico set a record but Las Serpientes had been beaten in 2017 by the Cayman Islands. The Caymans were 39-17 winners at Georgetown. Prior to that Mexico were 34-24 winners in 2016.

The 2021 meeting marks the resumption of test match rugby in the region. International competition has been limited to additional forms such as Rugby Sevens. The match on December 11 in Mexico City will be a capped test match.
