Tiaan Erasmus moves from Houston to ATL

Tiaan Erasmus has signed with Rugby ATL for the 2022 Major League Rugby season. The 25-year-old South African heads east after spending the past three years in Texas first with Austin and more recently with the Houston SaberCats.

Injuries disrupted the 2021 campaign for Erasmus, his first with the SaberCats. He appeared in nine matches with six starts bring his MLR career totals to 29 games and 18 starts. Houston also used Argentina’s Diego Fortuny and American duo Mike Brown and Patrick Donovan at hooker.

Erasmus joins an established South African rugby community in Atlanta. This past season saw countrymen Marko Janse van Rensburg and Neethling Gericke filling the hooker spot for the Ratlers. Both have been coaching ATL’s Pathway 404 development side in recent weeks and are expected to return in 2022.
