Veremalua signs for Tel Aviv, Gleeson lands in Romania

A pair of San Diego Legion players have found new homes abroad. Fijian back row Jasa Veremalua has signed for the Tel Aviv Heat – Israel’s first professional team – in the Rugby Europe Super Cup competition, while Irish prop Cronan Gleeson has joined Tomitanii Constanta of the Romanian SuperLiga.

Veremalua, 33, has been a regular in the Legion lineup since arriving ahead of the 2019 Major League Rugby season. The 2016 Olympic Gold Medalist initially joined as a back but made a successful conversion to the back row, where he is set to play for Tel Aviv.

Gleeson made the switch to San Diego from Rugby ATL this past season. At 28 years old he also brings professional experience with Connacht and Munster in Ireland and Getxo Artea in Spain. During the 2021 campaign he played a largely supporting role for the Legion covering both sides of the scrum.
