Roster named for Canadian Senior Women’s Camp in Halifax

Canada’s Senior Women’s team are holding a training camp in Nova Scotia with 48 players as part of the preparations for next year’s World Cup in New Zealand. The week-long session begins on Friday, August 13, and will wrap up with a Friday evening Red vs Black trial match on August 20 at the Wanderers Grounds in downtown Halifax.

Among the attendees are several players who lined up for European clubs this past season. Many will return to England’s Premier 15s and the French Élite 1 during the upcoming campaign as competition for the final selection of 30 spots increases.

Elissa Alarie and Karen Paquin make the immediate transition to XVs from 7s after returning from Tokyo. Two other members of the Olympic team, Pam Buisa and Bianca Farella, are among eight players identified as unavailable. Canterbury lock Cindy Nelles did not travel from New Zealand.

Magali Harvey is a notable absentee but team management has confirmed they will be closely monitoring her progress with Auckland. The 2014 World Rugby Player of the Year is making a late bid for the World Cup, having last suited up for Canada against Wales in November 2018.

A limited number of tickets for Friday night’s trial match are available online.
