Seawolves star Shalom Suniula confirms retirement

Shalom Suniula is officially hanging up the boots. The Seattle Seawolves star has called a close to a decorated career at the age of 33 after winning international honors for the USA and two Major League Rugby titles. He joins older brothers Andrew and Roland in retirement.

After debuting for the Eagles Sevens squad at the age of 20, Suniula would go on to play in 41 World Sevens Series tournaments. He was selected to both the 2009 and 2013 Sevens World Cups, and then switched his focus to XVs, winning 18 test caps and playing at the 2015 World Cup in England.

Suniula was initially a scrumhalf or flyhalf but made the successful switch to the midfield in 2016. He would captain the Seawolves in their first two seasons, lifting the MLR Shield in each of the 2018 and 2019 campaigns. Retirement was considered prior to this season but Suniula would instead play six games to bring his total to 35 MLR appearances.
