Nicolás Sánchez becomes first Puma to score 800 test points

History was made today in Cardiff, Wales. Nicolás Sánchez became the first Puma to score 800 test points. He did so by scoring ten points in Argentina’s 20-20 draw against Wales. The 10 points took his test match total from 791 to 801 points.

Sánchez is the all-time leading point scorer for Los Pumas. He also has the most points in test rugby of any player wearing the colors of a test team from the Americas. In reaching 800 points he added to his existing record; he was the first Americas test player to surpass 700 points.

Sánchez is one of four players to score more than 600 points while playing test rugby for teams from the Americas. He joins former Pumas captains Hugo Porta and Felipe Contepomi. Meanwhile, James Pritchard is the highest scorer for a North American country with 607 points.

The leading point scorer from the Americas is Diego Domínguez, however. He scored 983 of his 1010 test points playing for Italy. He did so after he had previously played for Argentina.
