South Africa overcome Argentina to win u20 Series

South Africa overcame Argentina to win the International Series u20s. The Junior Springboks were 27-9 winners over Los Pumitas in the tournament final. It was the second game between the sides. South Africa were 33-26 winners in the prior fixture.

The final saw the home side finishing as comprehensive winners. The match was physical with South Africa getting the better of back-and-forth battle up front. Henco van Wyk, Bobby Alexander, and Andre-Hugo Venter touched down in the try zone in what was a four tries to zero performance. Venter scored twice during the match.

Despite how the flow went for the most part, Argentina started as the better side. They impressed in both the scrum and the maul to win penalties. Ramiro Waisberg slotted three in the first half. South Africa responded to be ahead 13-9 at the interval.

Los Pumitas were unable to add to their first half scoreline. Rain did not help Los Pumitas’ chances; instead, South Africa turned on their forwards game.

The second half turned into a bit of a scrap as the rain started to come down in Cape Town. However, the Junior Springboks laid a decisive blow in the 65th minute, when their pressure eventually told as Andre-Hugo Venter scored his first of two tries from driving mauls. They were rewarded with hooker Andre-Hugo Venter scoring his two tries.

Argentina finished the tournament in second position. Georgia overcame a 14-man Uruguay to finish third. Los Pumitas defeated Uruguay and Georgia in their other matches. They travel home with an overall 2-2 tournament performance. Many players will certainly be in consideration for SLAR teams for 2022.
