Harlequins defeat Saracens to win Premier 15s title

Harlequins defeated Saracens 25-17 to win the Premier 15s title on Sunday. Saracens were favored to win after finishing first on the regular season table though the two sides had drawn in their March meeting. The match was played at the neutral venue of Kingsholm in Gloucester.

Three Canadians suited up for Saracens. Sophie de Goede scored a second half try from close range while second row partner Emma Taylor’s first half charge-down created the first of two tries for England international Marlie Packer. Alysha Corrigan was a 51st minute replacement on the wing.

The forward strength of Harlequins proved decisive in the first half with two tries for hooker Amy Cokayne through driving mauls. At halftime the score read 19-7, a difference that proved insurmountable for Saracens despite a late surge.

Canadian hooker Mackenzie Carson is also at Saracens but did not play in the Final. US Eagles lock Kristine Sommer played for Harlequins earlier in the season but left the club early to prepare for Rugby World Cup 2021 prior to its eventual postponement.
