Argentina have been dealt a significant blow ahead of the Tokyo Olympics. Vastly experienced forward Fernando Luna has been ruled out of the tournament after suffering a ruptured patellar tendon in his right knee that will require surgical repair.
Luna, who turns 31 in a week, has been a leading player with Los Pumas for the last decade. He joined the senior squad in 2011 and made his World Sevens Series debut at Hong Kong in March 2012. Among Luna’s achievements are Pan Am Silver in 2015, Gold in 2019, and selection to the Pumas team for the 2016 Rio Olympics where he was a started all six games.
Originally from the Córdoba Athletic club, Luna is an outside back in the XVs game. After emerging through the age grade system he won a single test cap for Los Pumas against Uruguay in 2011. More recently he was part of the Argentina XV in the 2017 Americas Rugby Championship.
